#159. EXPECTATIONS- A Six Sentence Fiction

Aren’t people being irresponsible and insensible here?

Why do people expect me to get back to shape within weeks of delivering a healthy baby?

Am I an elastic band, for my body to resume its normal self, immediately after months of expanding and stretching?

The world is ever so demanding.

Why are we women always expected to appeal to an increasingly fickle public?

Thanks, but no thanks; let me take my own sweet time to recuperate.

  1. Excellent question. Seems to me cultural conditioning has something to do with it. Good for you! It’s your body. How long it takes a woman to return to her pre-pregnancy shape and fitness level is clearly a subjective, personal matter. It is unfortunate that women are pressured so.
Love the irony of your Six title πŸ˜€

  2. Amen and amen! No matter what others say, the body changes with pregnancy and some things do not completely change back, and it is okay, it’s how it was intended to be. In fact, it gives us character, etching our very bodies with everything we’ve been through.

  3. So true. There is enough to dwell on after giving birth without having to do a guilt trip if the weight and body doesn’t immediately, or perhaps ever return to its pre-baby condition.
