#174. THE PREDICTION: Flash Fiction

I had a bad feeling about this from the very beginning. Yet, he chose not to listen to me and dragged me along for this ‘fun’ event. Duh! Fun for whom, I wonder!

The place gave me an eerie vibe. The lady dressed up in all black with rows and rows of beads and tattoos almost adorning every inch of her body, looked formidable. Her hand gestures and gravelly voice gave me jitters.

She gazed deep into the crystal ball, looking as if she was in some kind of trance. As we sat there, expecting her to speak up, she finally turned around and looked straight into my eyes.

“Careful my dear! Your future looks crystal clear to me. You are not going to live until your next birthday. You…you girl, are going to die a painful death!”, she almost screamed in her ‘grounded glass’ voice.

I have had enough. I shot daggers at my boyfriend who sat transfixed next to me. I gave him a push and almost dragged him out of her dingy place. Just as we got inside our car, I heard a huge ‘thud’ sound and there was a billow of smoke, almost blinding and suffocating us.

“Have I really died?”, I tried opening my eyes, only to see the place where the crystal lady’s house once stood, had been reduced to dust and rubble. The dilapidated and dingy place had collapsed, killing the mystic woman, who had predicted my painful end just a minute ago!
