#178. A GODSENT?

I never thought my family would be so cruel, calling me out on a minor weakness.

They all thought that I couldn’t be quiet, not even for 5 minutes. Everytime when they made fun of me and called me a chatterbox, my blood would start boiling, I would start seeing red, but then exactly 2 minutes later, I’d go back to biting their ears off.

Yeah, I really can’t keep my mouth shut. Period. There, I said it!

Then in a family gathering, as I was busy giving out free words of wisdom to anyone who came in my line of sight, I didn’t realize that I was being watched.

My family and the extended ones who had gathered, surrounded me and gave me an offer of 5 grand for keeping mum for 10 minutes. Even before I could accept the dare, I saw a betting pool going one me losing the challenge!

Grudgingly, I accepted the dare and started counting seconds in my head. I didn’t even reach 150, I felt my ears ringing and head exploding with the concious effort of holding my tongue.

When the going started getting really tough, I wanted to keep myself distracted before I decided to jump the gun and do something brash. Just then I saw a woman pass by, took a dessert from her tray and stuffed it in my mouth. God! For what it’s worth, I wanted to prove them all that I am not a blabbermouth.

Seven and half minutes later, I became five grand richer. Even as I saw everyone giving me a look of respect and awe, my eyes started searching for a single soul, the lovely face of the woman who had given me that gluey dessert earlier. 🤭🤭

  1. I like, Ramya, your ability to create a story, always with a little surprising ending out of a few prescriptive words.
My suggestion about you writing a book of short stories is getting urgent. Thank you.
