Finally! I am going to meet her, after six long years!

I couldn’t afford to fly back to my high school sweetheart until now. Our twenty minutes per week phone call was never enough.

Toiling for over six years to get my Medical degree from a prestigious college overseas, I had worked doubly hard during the Summer breaks to gather funds and she had waited patiently for me.

‘It’s high time we married!’, I longingly thought. ‘I have earned enough for us to start our family in a new city’, I smiled broadly.

As the bus neared our village, I jumped even before the bus could stop properly, took two steps at a time and wished for my legs to reach her already.

‘What? How?’ I could only see rumbles where her house once stood. “Oh Richard! Tsunami struck and has taken Rachel from us forever!”, cried our common friend. I stood there transfixed.
