#367. MY SPECIAL SOMEONE – A Short Photofiction

Today was not my day. Two of my colleagues had taken an unplanned leave and in addition to taking up their share of workload, I was also subjected to my boss’s stream of expletives throughout the day at work. Yeah, definitely not my day!

Mentally battered and exhausted, I reached home to find it locked. ‘No surprise there. He might be having an equally maddening day too’, I thought. Bracing myself for the dinner preparation and other household chores waiting for me, I entered the bedroom to freshen up first.

The bedroom was unusually cold. ‘Oh my! Did I leave the air conditioner on, in my hurry to reach office in the morning?’, I hurriedly switched on the lamp to find my husband standing at the centre of the room giving me his hundred watts smile. “Welcome home, honey”, he said.

Looking at this sudden display of love, I walked towards him with excitement, beaming from ear to ear.

Just then, my eyes fell on the wall just above the bed frame. He had meticulously pinned our pictures, a lot of them, that recorded every significant event of our lives, every love filled moment we shared. My eyes started watering thinking about the effort he had taken just to see me smile.

After an exasperating day at work, it felt like heaven to get home to someone who loved me as much as I loved him. He might disagree with me on that , stating that he loved me more. Yeah, we were silly that way!

Visibly overwhelmed, I ran to him and he lifted me off my feat. We lost balance and fell right on our bed, making it squeak loudly. As we started laughing at our childishness, I couldn’t help myself from planting a loud kiss on his cheeks.

Who needed grand gestures and diamonds, when I had someone who looked at me the way he did and thought of special ways to please me!
